Overview:
In this project, you will be working in pairs to create your own country from scratch.
Your final product will be a brochure and a presentation about your own country.
Use your imagination, creativity and follow the project guidelines.
You will have 3 weeks to complete this project. Below are only some suggested due dates.
Naming Your Country: suggested due date: March 4th
Research the official names of different countries to get an idea how to name your country.
For example, the official name of America is United States of America.
Use one of the “official” prefixes to name your country such as Independent Republic of, United Federation of, Kingdom of, People Republic of, etc.
Design a Flag and Choose a Motto: suggested due date: March 8th
Many countries have a motto that consists of just a few words. Come up with a motto that sums up your hopes for your country. America’s motto, for example, is “In God We Trust.”
Choose an emblem or symbol such as stars, stripes, etc. that best represent your country. Keep it simple. Pick some symbolic colors and add decorative motif.
Map it Out: suggested due date: March 9th
Create a map of your country, decide how large or small it should be. Does it have a coastline? Does it border another country? Is your country an island? Where in the world is it located?
For example, Vietnam is a country in Southeast Asia with a long coast along South china Sea, it borders China in the north, it has a long border with Laos and borders Cambodia in the southwest.
Set Up a Government: suggested due date: March 12th
Choose your capital city, currency and the kind of government your country will have.
Government Types to Choose From:
Monarchy, Democracy, Republic, Oligarchy, dictatorship, Communism, etc.
Characteristics of your Government Define your government by answering the following questions: 1. How do leaders become leaders? 2.Who holds power and makes the decisions in the government? 3.How are the people’s views taken into account? 4.How does the government raise money? 5.What is one benefit of your country’s government? 6.What is one drawback of your country’s government? 7.Add 2 more characteristics or facts about your government. 8.Name a real country in the world that has your type of government.
Brochure: Due March 19th to present to class the following week.
Be sure that you present all the information in your brochure
Size: 8.5” X 11” tri-fold
Use Canva, PowerPoint, Google Slides, etc.
Presentation: Due March 19th to present to class the following week.
You will be presenting your country to the class. Make sure that everyone in the group takes part in the presentation.
You can use PowerPoint, Prezi, etc. using the same information that is in your brochure.
Each group member should be prepared to answer a variety of questions.
Make sure you can explain your ideas and why they would work in a realistic world.
Tips & Reminders 1. First, work together to provide all information about your country. 2.Divide the task between you. One should work on the brochure, the other on the presentation. 3.Submit your brochure on March 19th before presentation day the week of March 22-26
